Since I started the Woolly Stars quilt, I found I had a need for more mini-design boards for my quilt pieces - there's a lot of little pieces of fabric in those quilt blocks!  I made up 6 more of these:

Yesterday was a red-letter day - I got an egg from all three chickens!  It is finally getting light/warm enough for them to start laying.  We were in the low 70's yesterday - unusual for February, but welcome.  We are scheduled for mid-70's the rest of the week, and then more rain and lower temps, so I'll enjoy the warm weather (and fresh eggs) while I can!

I lost one chicken last week - Blackie, one of the Sexlinks that I got last year, died - possibly because she was eggbound?  Don't know for sure, but she was the only one I knew for sure that was lying eggs, and then I stopped getting eggs completely, and the other chickens seem to be doing fine, so it wasn't anything contagious.  I'm getting 1 egg every 3 or 4 days now, so as the days get longer, I'll get more eggs....I hope!  I have a plan for more chickens, too.  Cindy M has a couple of dozen eggs  incubating, so we'll have chicks in less than 3 weeks (21 days from start of incubation).  The eggs are Araucana chickens - they lay colored eggs.  I'm also looking for at least one Easter Egger (also lays colored eggs) - depending on how many of the eggs hatch, and how many are hens (we don't want a rooster....)  We are definetely not counting our chickens before they hatch!

I almost have a project done that I've been wanting to do for a long time, but for multiple reasons (cost, inconvenience, general anxiety about making a big mistake, etc.) hadn't done, but....it's almost done and I love it so far!  I had a contractor in and pull out the tub from the main bathroom and put in a walk-in shower instead.  Here's the before:

The sink:

When they put the bathroom fixtures in, they used gold hardware....which might have looked good 30+ years ago, but it didn't age well.  They also used beige for the tub and sink - not my favorite color.  The tub is out and the new shower is in.  Still waiting for the sink to be installed, but I love it so far!

I took advantage of my three-day weekend last week, and got a couple more sheep blocks done.  They are so cute!!!

I finally started the Block a Month quilt through Sew Simple, the local quilt store.  I saw the quilt at our quilt show last fall, and fell in love with it.  I had bought the pattern even, but hadn't started it yet when I found out it was going to be a BOM locally - which gives me a bit of accountability.  (Each month at the BOM club meeting, we are to bring in the prior month's block, theoretically completed.....) Even though there is some accountability, I'm already behind.  I have the January block put together, but not sewn, and haven't started the February block yet.  Still, it will be a beautiful quilt....

One more block done on the RBD 2025 challenge quilt.  I really like the flowers in the corner of the block. This challenge is turning into a fun quilt - each block is from a different designer.

The amaryllis that I got at Christmas is beginning to bloom.

Speaking of walks this week, AJ and I took the dogs out after work, and the recent rains have caused a sinkhole in the field, right by the entrance.

Spring is coming!  The trees are beginning to bloom - this is from a walk in the neighborhood last week.

James has discovered the top of the pellet stove.....

Jessie loves it there, but James is just now figuring it out (she's not the smartest cat I've ever had, bless her heart....).  When I don't light the stove in the morning, Jessie started sleeping on the laptop we use for Alli's Pokemon movies....causing the laptop to stop playing.  I finally put aluminum foil over the keyboard to "discourage" her.

Yes, another trip to the quilt store (for my monthly Quilt Club meeting), another quilt....  In January, I picked up the pattern for the Scrappy Heart quilt, this month I picked up Wooly Stars....

I'm making the stars different colors out of my stash.  Even the black fabric is out of my stash, I just needed to by the background fabric.

Here's the first block finished!

An update on my cactus - it may be just one bloom. but it's beautiful!

And this one is budding - maybe an Easter cactus??

Wednesday, February 05, 2025

I don't often get my Christmas cacti to bloom - nothing near what they did when Mom had them (the majority of mine came from Mom after she died), but I have one bloom....

Meredith, Cindy, Leona and I went to lunch Sunday and then to see Malory in a play (The Odd Couple, female version).  The talk at lunch was great, the food was "okay" and the play was great - 2 out of 3, I guess.  We are in the midst of a majorly wet storm, and the creek flowing by the theater was flowing quickly.  (Churn Creek was flooding the road by a couple of inches when I went to lunch - I drove through it then, but took the long way home to avoid it. No telling how much more water was over the road after a few more hours.)

According to the paper, we got almost 6 inches of rain at the airport over the weekend - 4 inches of taht on Sunday.  We are in the middle of the 2nd of 3 storms now, but neither are supposed to be as wet.  Lots of wind, and the 3rd storm will be cooler - snow in the foothills.

One more block done for the RBD quilt. This one is Rose Among the Thorns.

The three blocks done so far - Bloom and Grow and Around the Corner (a fun one to make....)

Sunday, February 02, 2025

I finished the chicken quilt late Sunday night and threw it in the washer Monday morning.  Last week was too busy after work for me to get a good photo of it (I wanted more natural light, and it's dark after work!!!) so I finally remembered to get a photo yesterday.  Not as much natural light as I hoped, since we have rain here.  Yes, we need the rain - we had a very dry January, but I had other plans for the weekend that did not include rain.  I really like this one.  The other chicken quilt was more fun to make with the different pieced blocks, but this one looks more cohesive.  I guess I'll have to save my pieced blocks for other quilts....

For comparison, here is the other chicken quilt I made:
