Sunday, after breaking camp, Margene and I hiked (most of) the Flume Trail.  This trail takes off from the Castle Crags State Park Headquarters and goes along the old flumes used to bring water in for gold mining.  It then joins the Pacific Crest Trail.  We made it up to the PCT junction, but not much further (it was hot!!!!)

Before we started the hike, we went up to the Vista Point - about the only place you can actually 'see' Castle Crags from the park.

Then....Flume Trail....

We found this guy hanging out in a tree, eating pine needles.

We did find one place on the trail to see the crags.....

Not the best picture of me (did I mention it was hot???  That was the beginning of our heat wave - 100 degrees in Dunsmuir that day....), but we made it to the PCT!

Here are some pictures from the River Trail.  It was a nice little walk - not really a hike - unless you count where we left the trail and climbed down the the river for better pictures.

One thing about vacation - it takes me a week to catch up on work! Margene and I took off Saturday morning to Castle Crags for a night of camping and hiking, and got back Sunday afternoon.  I have spent the last week trying to catch up with myself.  I had 435 e-mails when I got in Monday morning.....

Castle Crags was beautiful, but hot!  Saturday, after we set up camp, we went on the River Trail.  I spent most of the walk trying to get a good photo of the lilies that were blooming.  I don't know that I ever succeeded.  At least the walk up the Sacramento River was cooler than hanging out in camp.

There were other flowers along the trail as well.

I started something new....I enrolled in a 'yarn of the month' club. I'm not quite sure why, but, I can cancel at any time, and I just might find some new yarns I like!  I got my first yarn last week - Roving Silk Yarn.  Definitely  not something I would have picked up!  I started a scarf out of it - and changed to a different pattern, but still a scarf.  The club sent a pattern with the yarn, but the pattern was for baskets for air plants.  Cute, but not something I really wanted to make.  I'll post a photo of the scarf when I'm done.

I was on my in to town to meet Meredith for lunch on Thursday, and I sent her a quick text telling her I might be late - the traffic was at a standstill on I-5.  Eventually, I got up to the problem......

Okay - I forgot to post, so had several posts to do at once - I did break them up into 4 posts so it wasn't one loooong post though.....

More camping pictures - Margene caught a couple of trout for dinner - the fish didn't seem to be biting.  The waters are very high and fast.  I didn't see anyone pulling a lot of fish out - just two people with one fish.  Margene managed to get two!

Some Hat Creek pictures:

Margene getting ready to fish.

My favorite rock - the first time I found it it was a long way away from the water, but this year, it was surrounded.....

Chipmunks proved elusive at first for photos - I sat in camp trying to catch one with the camera, but they didn't want to play the first day.  Later, I found one on one of my walks

And then they just wandered in to camp.....
