I was looking at my posts, and realized I forgot to add the first picture!  I forgot to water my plant in my office - when I got in to work on Tuesday, it was very sad.....

A little bit of water did wonders.....luckily!

The Japanese cucumber is growing quickly!  I took this picture last night (the 28th), and compared it to a photo I took on the 24th.  It's gotten a lot bigger in just a few days.  I think it has a while to go before it's ready to eat, and I'm looking forward to it.  I have some lemon cucumbers that have set as well, so hopefully I'll be eating cucumbers all summer from the garden!

This was taken 5/24:

And one completely finished quilt!  It was a very simple design, but I'm proud of it - I started with the idea of the modified nine-patch block, and ended up designing my own quilt!  As usual, I need more practice with the quilting part of it, but I'm getting there.

And one more quilting project is pending.  I fell in love with this quilt (the stars, the colors, the layout, oh my!) and just got the fabric in for it. It's on my list to do, right there with the new chicken quilt and the block-a-month quilt (the last month of fabric is on it's way....) and the mystery quilt that I'm working on (two more weeks for that one....)  I need more quilting time!

And the garden is growing!  I have a jalapeno pepper and a cucumber!!!

The beans are taking off and outgrowing the trellis already!

More water lily pictures - they are beautiful this year! (I know, I say that every year, right???)

Friday, May 24, 2024

I found this guy on my watering can when it was time to water the flowers - lots of little frogs this time of year.

The Star Jasmine is in full bloom now - the backyard smells heavenly!

Tuesday, May 21, 2024

The spring green grasses are turning summer brown in the field.  We had a very nice, long (read that as cool) spring this year, but summer is here! We hit 97 degrees last week, but are back to our normal mid-80's again.

I have a very baby cucumber!  This is on the Japanese cucumber plant I got at Turtle Bay Arboretum,  The lemon cucumbers I planted from seed haven't started blooming yet.

The pole beans have started climbing the trellis.

And the purple (bush) beans have started blooming.

Two more blocks done on the 'block a month" quilt.  So far, it's been 4 months, and I have 8 (of 20) blocks completed.  In one way, it's nice to not have to do many clocks at once, but in another, it kind of annoying to move so slowly.  I do have other projects to work on, so this one just sits and waits for me....

My housecleaner was here yesterday, and when she cleans the floors and mops, she piles all of the dog beds up and out of her way.  Yesterday, she left them that way, and Luna was playing "Princess and the Pea" with three beds stacked up, while poor Ripley had to sleep on the cold hard floor.....no bed for her!  (There were still a couple of dog beds available, honest!)

I have baby tomatoes and sugar snap peas! The peas are ready for my salad bowl but the tomatoes have a while before harvesting, I think!

And another project, if I ever finish my current projects. I found the cutest chicken panel, and got some coordinating fabric to make it a quilt with. Of course I have three or four, (maybe five?) projects ahead of it.

And it's done, complete with a label!  This one took a while, mainly due to procrastination.  It turned out better than I thought it would.  It used scrap fabric, so I wasn't sure how the colors would all "go" together - still the hardest part of quilting for me.  I still prefer kits, where someone else has picked out the fabric for me, but I am occasionally doing my own choices.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?  Mine is beginning to take off!  I have sweet pea pods almost ready for a salad, and bell pepper blossoms. The tomatoes are still not happy, but the Sweet 100 cherry tomato plant is beginning to grow, so I'm hoping the others are right behind it.  I do have some blossoms on the others, they just don't seem real happy yet. The temps were up in the 90's yesterday, so they should start kicking in to high gear.
